Years ago, an advertising campaign on Delhi had 'Dilli Hai Oil Walon Ki' running as its slogan, meaning that Delhi belongs to the people who are large-hearted! This book is about a historical city and its people, not exactly like a tourist guide, but more with the aim that someone would read it at leisure, half-lying down on the bed, or putting one's feet up on the chair. It is a leisurely written account, introducing the reader to the rulers and their monuments, and yet talking about Delhi Daredevils, Delhi's own cricket team in the popular IPL series. It tells you where to go and have robust Punjabi khaana, and where to buy Indian handicrafts from. The overlaps in the chapters were a conscious decision, as we wanted the reader to imbibe rather than read it like an information booklet. The book is anything but an academic exercise, and yet gives all the information to a traveller in the city, who needs to enjoy and experience the city's best.
