The story is written in long paragraphs that contain extended sentences. It is about a dictator, a ruthless and cruel man, who lives a life of loneliness, but is consumed by his power with complete disregard for the damage that it has caused.
The protagonist holds a God-like status in the book that is similar to the kind of respect that the dictators the real world has seen. The respect and regard that he gets from his people will leave us in awe.
In this book, Gabriel Garcia Marquez has successfully managed to base his fictional characters on some real-life autocrats.
